Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a master's degree from the department of English literature. Mitchell began her professional career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976 she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). A few years later, she was general reporter at NBC News in Washington. 1981 was the year she began reporting on the White House, and in 1988 was named chief congressional correspondent. She was made Chief White House correspondent in 1992. As well as the Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell was host and an expert panelist on the TV show Meet the Press. She was on the panel in 1988's presidential debates which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was former chairman at Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in the field of journalism. In 2004, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's very first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. It was a time when the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. She covered many notable issues, such as the weapons control, budget taxes and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended many summits with the help of President Reagan together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
